How to work with the electronic veterinary dental chart: create a patient, fill in the tooth chart, add photos and X-rays, clinical notes, save data, and generate a professional PDF report.

Updated for v1.4.0

Getting started

From a patient in the list to a saved chart

In Patients, create an animal record or open an existing one. Click a patient row to open the interactive dental chart with data saved for that case.

  • Species (dog or cat) comes from the patient record and is fixed on the chart — you do not need to switch it during the exam.
  • The Save button in the chart header writes the full state (all teeth, general data, presets) to the patient database.
  • On the home dashboard: quick actions (new patient, list, recalls) and Recent patients to continue where you left off.
  • In Patients: click column headers to sort, filters persist between sessions, CSV export of the current list (download button in the toolbar on desktop). Search, filters, and + stay flush with the page header (no separate gap under the title). After returning from a clinical chart the list opens faster — data is cached locally. Shortcuts: / — focus search; type anywhere on the list to search; Shift+N — new patient.
  • See Saving the chart for more detail.
Tip. Set your clinic name and upload a logo in your profile — they appear in the chart header and PDF report. The notification bell in the dashboard header shows platform updates.

Profile, logo, and subscription

Settings → clinic branding and service access

Settings

In Settings, change your name, job title, clinic name, and avatar. Your title appears in the PDF footer next to your name.

Clinic logo

  • Upload PNG or JPEG in the Clinic logo block — PNG keeps a transparent background.
  • Choose crop position (center, top, bottom…) — the preview shows how the logo will look in the header.
  • On the chart, the logo appears before the Clinical chart heading.
  • In the pre-PDF dialog you can enable or disable the logo in the printed report.

Subscription and promo codes

Access to patients and charts is through a subscription with auto-renewal (Monobank). On first payment the card is saved for future periods; auto-renewal can be turned off in the account. A promo code applies on manual payment in the account (one code per account). See Invite a colleague and get rewarded below for how referral discounts and bonuses work.

Free trial period

Before subscribing you can try Triadan.app for 14 days. Choose a plan and billing period and link a payment card. Subscription is not charged when the trial starts.

  • Up to 30 patients created, 50 photos/X-rays/files uploaded, and 150 new PDF generations — limits are shared across the whole workspace (Clinic/Network).
  • Deleting data does not restore trial quota.
  • After 14 days the selected plan is charged automatically; you can cancel auto-renewal before the first charge.
  • If payment fails or auto-renewal was canceled, clinical access pauses for the owner and all doctors; data is kept and restored after a successful payment.

Invite a colleague and get rewarded

triadan.app has a two-sided referral program: your invited colleague gets a discount on their first payment, and you earn recurring bonuses from their subscription.

  • Your colleague gets 50% off the first subscription payment when they sign up with your personal link or code.
  • You automatically earn 15% in bonuses from every payment your colleague makes, for 12 months starting from their first payment.
  • The 50% discount for your colleague applies once, to the first payment only, and does not stack with promo codes or other special offers.
  • If your colleague starts a free trial, nothing is charged today — the discount is applied to the first charge after the trial ends.
  • If your colleague has both your invitation and a promo code, only one special offer can be used for the first payment; they confirm the choice before paying.
  • Self-referrals (signing up with your own link) are not eligible for the discount or the reward.
  • Share your link or code, and view invite history and terms, from the Referral program card on your dashboard.

Notifications

The bell icon in the dashboard header shows clinical reminders (recalls, team activity) and system messages. Unread items are marked with a blue dot. You can react to system notifications with emoji (🦷, 🐾, 👍, ❤️, etc.) — counts show how many colleagues reacted.

Bell notifications

In SettingsBell notifications, choose what to show: recall reminders, team events, system messages.

PDF defaults

In SettingsPDF export defaults, set color (color / B&W) and content (full chart or clinical findings only) — these apply to every export; you can still change them per export in the PDF dialog.

Periodontal probing

In SettingsPeriodontal probing, choose your personal default mode: By roots or 6 points. The preference is stored for your account on this device and does not change other doctors’ settings on the team. For any tooth you can still switch mode in the periodontal chart at any time.

Two-factor authentication

We recommend enabling 2FA (Google Authenticator, etc.). On the dashboard click Enable 2FA in the security banner — you will be taken to the activation button in settings. Or open SettingsTwo-factor authentication.

Interactive chart

Three projections, display filters, and header tools

The chart is built on anatomically accurate SVG templates. You can enable and combine projections depending on how you prefer to examine the patient:

  • 1. Lateral skull view (right and left sides) — R (Q1, Q4) on the left of the screen, L (Q2, Q3) on the right.
  • 2. Jaw panorama (buccal view) — R on the left (Q1, Q4), L on the right (Q2, Q3); for dogs, lower jaw numbering is adapted for the panorama.
  • 3. Occlusal view (palatal and lingual surfaces) — R on the left (Q1, Q4), L on the right (Q2, Q3).

Chart header

In the clinical chart header: General condition (oral cavity with no tooth selected), projection / dentition toggles, group select, chart display (filters), mirror, presentation mode, fullscreen, then Photos / X-rays immediately before PDF, and Save.

Chart display

The sliders button opens Chart display — a session-only view (not saved to PDF or clinical data). Choose a chart mode (all / tooth status / pathologies / fractures / traumatic injuries / structural / treatment) and tooth filters (with pathology, planned or completed treatment, not examined, periodontal, endodontic, trauma, missing or extracted). Teeth outside the filter are dimmed; active filters appear as chips above the chart.

Presentation mode

The toggle on the chart panel hides tooth numbers until hover and disables tooth clicks — handy for owner presentations or training assistants. The side editing panel is hidden in presentation mode.

Fullscreen view

On phone and tablet tap Expand to fullscreen on a projection (or double-tap the diagram). In fullscreen mode use two-finger pinch-zoom at the focal point (especially useful for the lower jaw on the occlusal view). Swipe left/right to switch lateral, panoramic, and occlusal projections; the crosshair button re-centers the diagram after zooming.

On mobile, the compact chart toolbar exposes the same actions: group select, display, mirror, presentation, and fullscreen.

Saving the chart

Working copy of the patient's state

The Save button in the chart header writes the full current state — all teeth, general data, presets, and notes — to the patient database.

  • Saved data is available the next time you open the chart.
  • Saving is not a substitute for a PDF report — it is a working copy to continue the exam; a professional PDF report is generated separately via Export to PDF.
  • Chart shortcuts: Ctrl/Cmd+S — save, Ctrl/Cmd+Z — undo, Ctrl/Cmd+Y (or Ctrl+Shift+Z) — redo.
  • Before closing the chart, make sure your changes are saved.

Tooth selection: single, groups, mirror

Flexible tools for fast documentation

Single selection

Click a tooth — it highlights and a panel with all tools for that tooth appears on the right (or below on phone). Above the chart, Recent teeth chips let you jump back to recently edited teeth. Click outside a tooth, the header, or the panel to clear selection and switch to general condition.

Multi-select and group select

Enable Multi-select or open Group select (grid icon): shortcuts for upper / lower arch, right / left side, all teeth, and invert. Tap the group-select button again or swipe down to dismiss the sheet. Statuses, conditions, and presets apply to all selected teeth at once. On mobile, use Edit selected.

Active selection

In the tooth panel, Active selection opens Edit active selection — a full-chart checklist with the same group shortcuts. Clear selection removes teeth but keeps the sheet open so you can build a new set immediately; Apply closes the editor. You can also mark the set as Examined.

Mirror mode

The Mirror mode button on the chart syncs changes with the symmetric tooth on the opposite side (Q1↔Q2, Q4↔Q3). Useful for typical bilateral lesions. The partner tooth is highlighted when mirror is active.

Tip. Mirror adding of persistent deciduous teeth works only with mirror mode enabled — molars are skipped because they have no duplicate.

Tooth statuses and conditions

Two levels of clinical description

Statuses (multiple allowed)

These reflect primary pathology or procedural status: gingivitis, periodontitis, fracture, treatment, extraction, missing, retention, ankylosis, resorption, gingival mass, root remnant, abscess, caries, and more. Fracture has subtypes. Restorations & treatment groups procedures (periodontology, endodontics, restoration, surgery) with planned / completed phases; Advanced covers additional interventions (prosthetics, orthodontics, periodontal plastic surgery, and more), including crowns with material selection and a custom procedure name. Furcation and mobility are set in the periodontal chart (stages 0–3), not in status checkboxes.

Conditions (multi-select)

Additional clinical signs on the tooth: healthy, calculus (stages 1–3), gingivitis, gingival hyperplasia, deciduous root remnant, oronasal fistula, abrasion, atresia, and more. Calculus has a separate severity stage selector. Whole-mouth oral condition (hygiene, inflammation, mucosa, clinical signs, structural changes) is recorded in the chart’s general condition — see that guide section.

Filled statuses and conditions are color-coded on the chart and appear in the tooth text block in PDF. If a tooth has multiple pathologies at once, vertical color stripes appear on the diagram — each color matches its status.

Pathology glyphs

Instead of identical dots in the sidebar, view mode, and PDF report, clinical glyphs help distinguish lesion type even in B&W print:

  • • — normal, persistent deciduous, periodontium without lesion.
  • ✕ — extraction, missing, root remnant.
  • ▲ — fracture; ○ — destruction (caries, resorption, abrasion).
  • ■ — therapy and plastic; ● — inflammation and calculus.
  • ◆ — gingival mass lesions; ⤢ — mobility; ◌ — retention / ankylosis.
  • ⋔ — furcation; ⊕ — supernumerary root; Y — gemination (bifid crown); R — gingival recession; Z — enamel crack.
Tip. In color PDF, glyphs use pathology color; in B&W mode they are dark gray for printer readability.

Periodontal chart

Two probing modes: by roots and 6 points

The periodontal chart is available when one tooth is selected. Under the root description you’ll find the Probing switch: By roots | 6 points. Both modes are clinically valid — pick what fits the exam. Each mode keeps its own data: switching does not erase the other mode and does not auto-convert values.

Probing modes

  • By roots — quickly enter main PD / AL / CAL / BOP values for each anatomical root.
  • 6 points — a detailed probing matrix around the tooth (vestibular plus palatal or lingual).
  • Your personal default mode is set in SettingsPeriodontal probing (see the profile section).
  • The help icon next to the switch explains the modes; the ? next to the chart title explains PD, AL, CAL, BOP.

By roots

  • Separate root cards with PD, AL, CAL (calculated automatically), BOP, and a root note.
  • You can mark a missing root; root count follows tooth anatomy (1, 2, or 3).
  • In cats, teeth 107 and 207 may have an optional third (supernumerary) root.
  • Fill empty applies healthy values (0 mm) only to blank fields and leaves filled ones unchanged.

6 points

  • Compact grid: vestibular MV / V / DV; maxillary palatal MP / P / DP, mandibular lingual ML / L / DL.
  • Each site: PD, AL, CAL (automatic), and its own BOP (round indicator).
  • After choosing a value, focus moves to the next site in the row — convenient on keyboard and phone.
  • Fill menu: fill empty with healthy values, repeat the row value into empty cells, or clear 6 points.
  • Roots and notes (collapsed) — missing roots and root notes without large measurement cards.

Shared parameters

  • Furcation — only for multi-rooted teeth; hidden for single-rooted ones.
  • Mobility, the tooth note, missing roots, and root notes are shared across both modes.
  • The risk indicator uses only the active probing mode (it does not mix the two datasets).

Fill and clear

  • Clear current mode — only measurements of the active mode; furcation, mobility, and the other mode stay.
  • Clear entire periodontal chart — both modes, BOP, furcation, mobility, notes, and missing-root flags (with confirmation).

In the PDF report

PDF shows only the active mode: either root-based lines or a compact 6-point table. Inactive mode data remains in the chart but is not duplicated in the main report. Furcation, mobility, missing roots, and notes print regardless of mode.

Tip. Periodontal measurements are not included in saved clinical presets — only statuses, conditions, mobility, furcation, and notes. On mobile, tooltips open above the tooth panel.

Persistent deciduous teeth

Duplicates for incisors, canines, and premolars

If a deciduous tooth remains next to the permanent one, click Add persistent deciduous tooth in the selection panel. On the chart the tooth shows a two-color gradient: the permanent part in the main pathology color, the deciduous duplicate in coral for quick recognition. Left and right jaw sides are shaded symmetrically relative to the midline.

  • After adding, switch the Permanent / Persistent tabs for separate duplicate status.
  • For the duplicate: Present or Extracted; you can remove the persistent deciduous tooth from the chart at any time.
  • In multi-select, Add persistent deciduous teeth appears if at least one selected tooth qualifies — molars are ignored.

Supernumerary (extra) tooth

A separate tooth next to a Triadan position

If there is a supernumerary tooth beside a standard position, you can record it separately — with its own statuses, periodontal data, and notes. This is not a persistent deciduous tooth (504, 607, etc.) and not an extra root in the periodontal chart.

How to add

  • Select one permanent tooth on the chart (Permanent or Mixed dentition mode).
  • In the selection panel click + Add supernumerary tooth nearby.
  • Choose location: mesial, distal, vestibular, palatal/lingual, or Other with a custom note.
  • After creation the extra tooth appears in the list under the button — click it to open the same clinical panel as for a regular tooth.

On the chart and in the panel

  • On the diagrams an S marker appears next to the base tooth (S1, S2…); color reflects clinical findings.
  • Click the marker again to deselect the extra tooth.
  • Panel label example: 104(S1) — canine (extra).
  • In Deciduous dentition mode, adding extra teeth is not available.

In the PDF report

Extra teeth appear in the PDF side columns next to the base position; the legend shows S — supernumerary / extra tooth. Optionally enable Compact labels in PDF in the export dialog — abbreviations apply only to print; full names remain on the chart.

Not the same as persistent deciduous

  • Persistent deciduous — duplicate in quadrants 5–8 (607 next to 207); gradient on the chart, Permanent / Persistent tabs.
  • Extra tooth — id such as 207-S1, separate chart entry, S marker on the diagram.
  • Extra root — periodontal annotation only for teeth 107/207 in cats (glyph ⊕).
Tip. Remove an extra tooth with Remove extra tooth in the list under the base tooth — the base Triadan tooth is unchanged.

Clinical presets

Your own one-click templates

Configure a typical set of statuses and conditions on a tooth, click Save preset, and name it. Presets are stored on the patient chart and available from the dropdown for quick application to a selected tooth or group.

Copy to tooth transfers all clinical data from the current tooth to any other teeth on the chart (broader than mirror mode) — handy for symmetric or typical lesions on multiple teeth.

The clear button resets clinical data on the tooth (statuses, conditions, notes) without removing the persistent deciduous duplicate from the chart.

Clinical notes and occlusion

Structured text and bite class

Tooth notes

Extended notes support color, priority, and tags — handy for highlighting critical findings. Text syncs to PDF.

Occlusion (MAL)

Bite classification: normal (MAL0) and classes I–IV (MAL1–MAL4) with help for each class. Available in single-tooth mode and general condition; occlusion comment is stored in a separate field.

General condition

Oral cavity with no tooth selected

Open General condition in the chart header or click empty chart space — the side panel shows whole-mouth oral condition. Conditions are grouped: hygiene, inflammatory, mucosa & soft tissue, clinical signs, structural changes. Some items support severity and a short note; the clinically normal marker is mutually exclusive with other general conditions. Occlusion and general notes are recorded here as well.

The Reset all button with confirmation clears the entire chart and general data — use with care.

PDF export

Professional A4 PDF report — color or B&W

Click Export to PDF in the chart header. A passport data dialog opens first — review or complete:

  • Patient name, species, breed, age.
  • Owner, veterinarian, title, clinic, exam date.
  • Print mode: color or B&W (for office printers).
  • Content mode: full chart (all teeth, healthy in green) or clinical findings (only teeth with pathology).
  • Show clinic logo in PDF — if a logo is uploaded in profile.
  • Add photos and X-rays toggle — second PDF section after the clinical chart (up to 48 images, 6 per page).

After confirmation the system generates a printable A4 PDF report on the server. A progress indicator appears during generation; when done — a dialog to save, open, or share the file (on supported devices).

Content mode

In full chart mode columns show all teeth; healthy ones are highlighted in green. In clinical findings mode only marked teeth appear; the list starts under the header and free space is distributed evenly between cards. You can set the default mode in profile settings.

What's inside the PDF

  • Header triadan.app · VETERINARY E-DENTAL CHARTS with passport data and optional clinic logo.
  • Three columns: right jaw tooth cards, central occlusal and panoramic diagrams, left jaw tooth cards.
  • Pathology only where findings exist — with clinical glyphs instead of identical markers.
  • Periodontal values for the active probing mode (by roots or a 6-point table), persistent deciduous teeth, supernumerary teeth, occlusion, and general status in the summary block.
  • Footer: occlusion, general oral status, veterinarian title and name, generation date.
  • Appendix Materials for photo documentation and dental radiography — separate pages after the chart with photos, X-rays, comments, and cropping.
  • Filename: triadan.app_chart_{name}_{date}.pdf.
Tip. Profile settings are filled in automatically — you can change them in the modal before printing. Tooth columns dynamically adjust text size and spacing so the list does not overflow the footer; if content still won't fit, a warning lists tooth numbers that will be clipped.

Recommendations

Three document types for the owner: post-examination, follow-up examination, and postoperative

On the patient chart click Recommendations (next to PDF export). First choose the document type — it controls the editor content and the PDF title.

Document types

  • Post-examination — preliminary findings, required work-up, procedure preparation, provisional treatment plan, and cost.
  • Follow-up examination — recheck conclusion: oral exam, sutures, compliance, and the next observation plan.
  • Postoperative — post-procedure care: diet, restrictions, medications, home care, and recheck date.

Editor

  • Tabs Edit, Medications, Appearance, Templates, History; on mobile use the PDF preview button.
  • Show or hide any section in the PDF with the toggle in the section header.
  • Section title in PDF lets you rename each section for every recommendation type.
  • Soft food, no hard chewing, and recheck set care timing; choose Not needed when a restriction does not apply.
  • In Medications, add rows with dose, route, and duration; each row can be excluded from the PDF.
  • In Appearance, reorder sections, set page breaks, and use the PDF look shared with the clinical chart.
  • Text supports variables (Insert variable) — patient name, clinic, doctor, and similar fields fill in automatically in the PDF.
  • Changes save automatically — the editor header shows the last saved time.

Follow-up examination

  • In Oral examination you can add, edit, and delete checklist items.
  • Use the checkbox on the left of each item to include it in the PDF.
  • Add the clinical conclusion in the field below the checklist.

Templates and history

  • Save the current document as a new template or update the selected one.
  • Save medications in template controls whether medications are stored with the text and appearance.
  • History keeps previous versions of this document type for the patient — preview, apply, or delete them.

In the PDF report

Apply to PDF adds the chosen recommendations document to export (separate A4 pages after the clinical chart). In the export dialog you can choose which recommendation types to include. Preview lets you adjust font size; long content automatically flows to the next page.

Tip. PDF appearance settings (template, font, header) are shared with the clinical chart — see Chart appearance. For postoperative letters, block order and page breaks are also set on the Appearance tab.

PDF chart appearance

Fine-tune layout before export

How to open

On the patient chart click Customize chart appearance (under the toolbar or in the PDF block). The editor opens with an A4 preview next to the settings.

Parameters

  • Auto mode — the system picks sizes based on how much data is on the chart.
  • Adjust separately: tooth spacing, tooth number size, pathology markers and text, clinical notes size.
  • For each parameter: Auto, Small, Medium, Large, or a custom percentage.
  • Save a preset as a personal template for reuse.
  • Changes apply to the PDF chart and recommendations; clinical data is unchanged.
  • The editor also saves changes automatically.
Tip. If the PDF overflows, try Clinical findings only in the export dialog or reduce text sizes in the appearance editor.

Photos and X-rays

Photo documentation and dental radiography

On the patient chart click Photos/X-rays (before Export PDF). Upload JPEG or PNG — up to 48 files per patient. Tooth numbers are optional on upload; you can add or change them later in each file card.

Comments and cropping

  • Under each photo — a Comment field for PDF description; save with Save comment.
  • For clinical photos: click the preview or a preset (Center, Top, Bottom…) to set cropping; Save crop fixes the result.
  • Radiographs are shown in the PDF report in full, without cropping.

Export to PDF

In the Export PDF dialog enable Add photos and X-rays — after the dental chart an appendix with materials is added (1–6 images on the first page, 7–12 on the second). Appendix header: clinic from settings, veterinarian title and name.

Tip. If a tooth is already selected on the chart, its number is prefilled in the upload field — but you can upload without tooth linkage.

Phone and tablet use

Responsive chart interface

  • On Home — bottom navigation (Home, Patients, Guide, Triadan Academy, and Settings as a separate right block); the header shows the logo instead of a menu button. The top bar respects the iPhone safe area.
  • In Patients, search and + live in one sticky header with the title; there is no separate floating + button.
  • The chart fills the screen; the editing panel opens when a tooth is selected.
  • In multi-select the panel does not open automatically — only via Edit selected or the Active selection block.
  • Group select and chart display are on the compact toolbar; swipe down to dismiss the group-select sheet.
  • The pathology list scrolls inside the panel — the page background does not move.
  • Panel height adapts for Safari iOS (dynamic viewport height and safe area).
  • Chart projections can expand to fullscreen with pinch-zoom — see Interactive chart.
  • Save and PDF are in the chart header; Photos / X-rays sits immediately before PDF.
  • Photos/X-rays opens in a full-screen modal — convenient for adding images from a phone.
  • In the periodontal chart the By roots / 6 points switch stays on one row; the 6-point matrix has no horizontal scroll.

Dog and cat

Differences in dental formulas

Species is set when creating the patient. The dog chart has the full formula; the cat chart hides positions not in the typical feline dental formula (e.g. some lower premolars and molars).

Numbering follows the international Triadan system: permanent teeth in quadrants 1–4 (101–411), deciduous in quadrants 5–8 (501–808).

Deciduous teeth (dog)

  • Incisors: 501–503, 601–603, 701–703, 801–803
  • Canines: 504, 604, 704, 804
  • Premolars: 506–508, 606–608, 706–708, 806–808

Deciduous teeth (cat)

  • Incisors: 501–503, 601–603, 701–703, 801–803
  • Canines: 504, 604, 704, 804
  • Premolars: 506–508, 606–608, 707–708, 807–808
Tip. Add persistent deciduous tooth appears only for positions in the tables above — molars and P1 are not added.
